The is the world's quietest room. It is one of what is known as an anechoic chamber,
a room designed to prevent the echo of any sound. There are plenty all over the world
but this particular one was developed by Microsoft in 2015 and holds the World Record
for being the quietest room with a measurement of -20.6 dBA. Since the human ear
can only detect noise above 0 dBA, the room is virtually and literally void of sound.
If you are in this room, you'll be able to hear yourself breathe, your heart beating, the blood
rushing through your body, your bones creak and grind and, without any external stimulus,
your ears will make their own noise. I have a certain level of white noise going on all the time.
I don't really notice it unless I make a point to but I would imagine it would be deafening in here.
It's been said that no one can stand being in the room for more than an hour. Although that is true
for some, others have said that they find it incredibly relaxing. So, apparently, it depends on the person.
Lunare: "Someone should also make the world's loudest room,
that makes a gnat farting sound like 1000 jet engines."
Steve: "The world's quietest room: My friend's attempt at
stand-up in a small club. You could hear a pin drop."
Doc: "We used to camp at a place in the Sierras called Loon Lake. If there's no breeze,
it's dead silent. You can hear other people's conversations on the other side of the lake.
Between that and having no light pollution at night - you can see satellites crossing the sky
- it was really quite a magical place."

These are Bismuth Crystals. They can be grown into specific shapes, like
earrings, pendants, etc. but this one looks like it was just allowed to grow on its own.

From 1954: The Regency HF-150 high fidelity amplifier, Webcor "Diskchanger" and Jensen
"Duette" reproducer make up this portable phonograph that you can take into any room
in the house ...like right in the middle of the kitchen, where you're slinging around various
pots and pans and casserole dishes full of hot food and boiling water.
Ever: "We've come a long way, Baby!"

The current day Hohenzollern Castle is the 3rd castle built on this site atop
Mount Hohenzollern, south of Hechingen, on the edge of the Swabian Jura
of central Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. The site is the ancestral seat of
the imperial House of Hohenzollern.
The 1st castle was built in 11th century and was destroyed in 1423 after a
10-month siege. A 2nd castle was built on the site in 1454 to 1461 but, by
mid 18th century, it was no longer considered of any strategic importance,
was generally abandoned and fell into neglect. It was later demolished.
From 1846 to 1867, Hohenzollern scion King Frederick William IV of Prussia
had the castle rebuilt as a family memorial and has thus remained today.
The public can now go visit the castle, if they wish. I love the driveway
going up to the front door. That is so cool!
